The abduction of the Chibok girls in 2014 continues to leave a profound scar on survivors and the Nigerian nation. One survivor recently shared the emotional toll of the ordeal, affirming a strong bond and loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan, under whose administration the global #BringBackOurGirls campaign gained momentum.
Despite the release of many girls, around 91 remain unaccounted for almost eleven years after the attack by Boko Haram on their school dormitories in Chibok, Borno State. The survivors have endured psychological trauma, stigmatization, and social reintegration challenges.
The survivor expressed enduring gratitude to Jonathan for his efforts and leadership during the crisis. “The scars left by the abduction will stay with me forever. I will die with Jonathan because he stood for us,” she stated.
The tragedy has spurred calls for continuous government efforts to rescue remaining captives, support survivors, and maintain national vigilance against kidnappings. As the nation commemorates the anniversary, activists and families renew the demand for justice and closure.
