Nigerian international and Super Falcons midfielder Deborah Abiodun has been named the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Rookie of the Month for September 2025. Playing for Washington Spirit, Abiodun made an immediate impact after her debut at the end of August.
Abiodun started three of four matches in September, playing a crucial role in the midfield and helping Washington Spirit achieve three multi-goal games and three clean sheets. She led the club in tackles and duels won and ranked second in the entire league for tackles won. Impressively, she maintained a passing accuracy of 87.3% in the middle third of the pitch.
This award marks her sixth Rookie of the Month honor for Washington Spirit since the beginning of the 2024 season and highlights her rapid ascent as a key player in the league.
Abiodun’s performances have significantly contributed to Washington Spirit’s climb to second place in the league standings, demonstrating her potential as one of the standout young talents in women’s football.
