Gov Uzodimma Declares APC Nigeria’s Only Political Party Amid Growing Defections

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) the only political party in Nigeria, citing the increasing defections from other parties and the broad national appeal of President Bola Tinubu's administration. Speaking on October 17, 2025, during an APC stakeholders meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, Uzodimma highlighted the party’s expanding membership and dominance in Nigerian politics.

Uzodimma credited President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” with reviving the Nigerian economy through bold reforms like the removal of the fuel subsidy and exchange rate unification. He acknowledged the initial hardships Nigerians faced due to these reforms but described the current period as a "harvest," with growing prosperity and grassroots empowerment initiatives underway.

He pointed out that defections of legislators, governors, and other political figures to the APC were driven by conviction in Tinubu’s leadership and the party’s performance. This political trend, Uzodimma argued, reflects the APC’s strength and the growing desire for unity and progress across Nigeria.

The governor also praised the collaborative work between federal, state, and local governments as a model of cooperative federalism and inclusive development, pledging continued support for the APC’s policy direction as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
