SGF Akume Says Peter Obi Couldn’t Rescue Anambra, Questions Ability to Lead Nigeria

Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume has publicly criticized former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, questioning his claims of being able to rescue Nigeria. Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Akume argued that Obi failed to effectively govern and develop Anambra State during his tenure, casting doubts on his capacity to lead the entire country.

“If Peter Obi could not rescue Anambra State as governor, how does he expect to rescue 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory?” Akume rhetorically asked. The SGF’s remarks come amid ongoing political discourse as Obi prepares for the 2027 presidential elections, positioning himself as a reformist candidate promising national transformation.

Akume accused Obi of exaggerating his achievements in Anambra, emphasizing that real governance requires consistent delivery of development and security beyond rhetoric. He urged Nigerians to critically evaluate leadership records rather than campaign promises.

The statement has stirred debate across political and social media platforms, highlighting lingering divisions within Nigeria’s political landscape as the 2027 election season intensifies.
