Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Otti firmly restated his commitment to exit active politics upon completing his governorship term, rejecting speculations of pursuing presidential, vice-presidential, or senatorial ambitions. Speaking Friday at the Government House in Umuahia, Otti addressed a viral video criticizing his recent visit to Nnamdi Kanu at Sokoto Correctional Centre, where critics linked the gesture to higher political aspirations. He emphasized democracy's allowance for diverse opinions but clarified his singular mission in office, promising to step aside for younger leaders once tasks are fulfilled.
Otti highlighted the importance of timely exits for officeholders, contrasting his approach with those who regress to lower roles post-governorship. On his Kanu visit, he explained initiating high-level discussions 24 months prior, viewing personal engagement as a responsible step since Kanu hails from Umuahia North in Abia.
While upholding legal processes and condemning past events like Operation Python Dance, Otti advocated administrative interventions for peace, noting even death sentences can lead to pardons without implying support for national disintegration.
