Federal Pensioners Storm Lagos Streets Over Unpaid Arrears, Vow Naked Protests Nationwide

Federal pensioners under the Coalition of Federal Pensioners of Nigeria staged a vocal protest in Lagos on December 9, 2025, decrying the government's failure to disburse N32,000 pension increment arrears and N25,000 palliatives approved since 2023. Led by National Chairman Mukaila Ogunbote, the retirees marched to key offices, accusing agencies like PTAD of insincerity despite repeated assurances, with some 2006 retirees yet to receive a single payment. They suspended an earlier nationwide naked demonstration following appeals from prominent figures but issued a December 15 ultimatum for action.

Participants, including FRCN and NIPOST chapters, highlighted dire poverty forcing many to beg, with Secretary Ganiyu Badamosi lamenting deaths from delays amid available funds. The group demanded December pensions by the 20th, slamming the Nigerian Union of Pensioners for alleged government bias, and warned of escalated action including diaspora protests if unmet. Protests targeted PTAD and NTA sites for maximum visibility.

This escalation follows a December 8 buildup, underscoring retirees' exhaustion with bureaucratic hurdles and calls for President Tinubu's direct intervention to avert further unrest.
