Kaduna Dry Port Hits 800 Containers Monthly Milestone Amid Trade Surge

Kaduna Inland Dry Port (KIDP) has recorded a remarkable surge in cargo throughput, rising from 200 to 800 containers per month, as announced by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) on December 8, 2025. Danjuma Buba, NSC's deputy director at the Kaduna office, credited the growth to enhanced coordination with the Kaduna State government and swift resolution of truck delays and interceptions that previously hampered operations. This progress has exceeded 800 containers by November, spurring trade, industry, and revenue for both state and federal coffers through customs duties.

State investments, including a new access road, have bolstered the port's viability, drawing more businesses and residents for imports and exports. Officials highlighted Kaduna's rich export potential in ginger, sesame seeds, and beans, urging locals to leverage competitive tariffs and incentives at the facility designed to serve northern Nigeria's trade needs. Port manager Razak Salami praised collaborations with customs, SON, NAFDAC, and others for driving this expansion.

Challenges persist, with calls for a second access road lane to sustain momentum and further cut evacuation times. The uptick signals broader economic revitalization in Kaduna and environs, positioning the dry port as a key decongestant for coastal hubs like Lagos.
