Katsina State Institute of Technology and Management (KSITM) secured National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) approval on December 30, 2025, to launch a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Artificial Intelligence for the 2025/2026 session, alongside five other HNDs and three National Diplomas (NDs). The greenlight followed rigorous accreditation verifying academic, infrastructural, and administrative standards, positioning KSITM as a northern AI hub.
HND programs now span AI, Networking & Cloud Computing, Software & Web Development, Cybersecurity & Data Protection, and Accountancy, while NDs cover Banking & Finance, Business Administration & Management, and Marketing. Restructured NDs include Computer Science, Crime Management, Library Science, Multimedia Technology, Computer Engineering, and Electrical/Electronic Engineering, aligning curricula with global tech demands and industry gaps.
KSITM's PRO Yusuf Gafai hailed the expansions as responses to technological evolution, building on UNICEF's 20,000-youth AI training initiative amid 300,000 out-of-school crises and Red Cross RUTF floods. Admissions portal opens soon, targeting applicants amid Yobe school reopenings post-bandit scares and Abuja's waste woes.
Launches counter Katsina's 75% child poverty with skills for future jobs, echoing Obi-Abaribe ADC shifts and Super Eagles' AFCON momentum in insecurity-plagued north. KSITM urges monitoring for guidelines as Nigeria eyes tech self-reliance beyond Edo kidnaps and Kebbi mill tragedies.
