Kogi State has advanced its commitment to inclusive education through the Adolescent Girls' Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, training 130 non-formal education facilitators to elevate teaching standards in alternative programs targeting out-of-school adolescents and adults. The sessions, held across the state, covered key subjects like English, Mathematics, Civic Literacy, and Basic Science, equipping instructors with modern tools to re-engage dropouts, particularly girls facing socio-economic hurdles.
This initiative partners with the Kogi Agency for Mass Non-Formal Education, emphasizing vocational skills and safe learning spaces to bridge gaps in secondary schooling, complementing earlier efforts like N40,000 conditional cash transfers to 13,359 girls for retention and transition. Project coordinator Dr. Abdulhakeem Bello highlighted revitalizing dilapidated schools with renovations, solar labs, and internet, urging community buy-in to restore public secondary appeal.
By fostering psychosocial support and life skills, AGILE deepens "second-chance" access, aligning with Governor Usman Ododo's vision for empowered girls contributing to Kogi's development amid World Bank-backed reforms.
