Osun Governor Adeleke Quits PDP Amid National Leadership Crisis and Governorship Primary Chaos

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the unresolved national leadership crisis as the primary reason, in a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the PDP chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede North Local Government Area. The announcement surfaced hours before the party's scheduled governorship primary on December 2, 2025, exacerbating factional tensions, with state chairman Sunday Bisi declaring the exercise suspended while the national secretariat insisted it proceed at a new venue amid reported threats.

Adeleke thanked the PDP for platforms that enabled his elections as senator and governor but offered no details on his future political affiliation, fueling speculation ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship race where he was expected to seek re-election. His cousin, singer Davido, reacted publicly to the development, highlighting family and public interest.

The exit deepens PDP's internal woes in the Southwest, following similar defections and parallels to past convoy attacks or security withdrawals alleged as plots against rivals.
