Former APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary Timi Frank has raised alarm over an alleged plot to assassinate former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the 2027 elections approach. Frank linked the claim to the sudden withdrawal of all police personnel from Atiku's security detail, despite his entitlement as a former vice president, calling it suspicious amid Nigeria's heightened insecurity.
He dismissed the police's explanation of a nationwide VIP security redeployment as a cover-up, insisting Atiku is the primary target to eliminate opposition ahead of the polls. Frank warned that no previous administration since 2007 tampered with Atiku's protection, urging the government to also strip security from President Tinubu's family and associates if the move is truly universal.
The allegations draw parallels to African trends where incumbents use state machinery against rivals, heightening tensions in Nigeria's polarized political landscape.
