The 2000 graduating class of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos (CMUL) 'YBC Y2K' will convene a symposium on "Reversing Medical Tourism" on December 16, 2025, at Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), marking their 25th anniversary.
Chaired by Prof. Janet Ajuluchukwu, the event features a keynote from the National Health Insurance Authority's Director General/CEO, alongside talks by Dr. Uzoma Gbulie, Dr. Nana Habeeb Adeyemi, and Dr. AbdulWarith Akinshipo on "Discovery Science and Clinical Translation".
Experts will address diaspora doctors' impact, public health by Dr. Temitope Mariam Masha and Dr. Simisola Alabi, health/safety by Dr. Adeola Eko, mental health by Dr. Olumide Gbajabiamila, perinatal care by Dr. Jumoke Ogunro, and oral health by Dr. Funmi Sijuwade. Prof. Azeez Butali emphasized curbing medical tourism to conserve forex, boost the medical economy, and enhance professionals' welfare, amid anniversary events including a meet-and-greet (Dec 14), sports day (Dec 15), beach getaway (Dec 17), and Jumat/gala (Dec 18).
