Calvin Bassey Vows Super Eagles Will Fight Hard for Bronze Against Egypt

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey remains upbeat despite the heartbreak of the semi-final exit.Nigeria lost to hosts Morocco on penalties after a tense goalless draw in Rabat on Wednesday night. The team now shifts focus to the third-place playoff.
Bassey took to social media to reflect on the tough loss. He thanked fans for their incredible support and togetherness throughout the tournament. "A gutting way to end the tournament," he wrote. "Sorry we couldn’t take it all the way, we fought and gave it our all. We’ll build on this. Not finished yet though, we still have something to push for."
That something is clear. The Super Eagles face the Pharaohs of Egypt on Saturday at the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca. Bassey insists the team will push hard to claim third position and finish the AFCON 2025 on a high note.
He was one of Nigeria's standout performers against Morocco. The Fulham star completely shut down dangerman Ayoub El Kaabi and delivered a heroic display at the back.
Unfortunately Bassey will miss the Egypt clash due to suspension. He picked up a yellow card in the semi-final which rules him out.
Coach Eric Chelle and the squad know the stakes. Nigeria has never finished fourth at an AFCON and aims to keep that record intact. A win over Egypt would secure bronze and provide redemption after the semi-final disappointment.
Fans appreciate Bassey's leadership and fighting spirit. Even from the sidelines his words motivate the team to go all out.
Saturday's battle promises intensity. The Super Eagles are determined to end their campaign with pride and a medal around their necks.
