Politics in Ebonyi State just got more interesting.
On Friday January 16 2026 Osborne Umahi the son of Minister of Works Senator David Umahi picked up his nomination form for chairmanship of Ohaozara Local Government Area.
He collected the expensive N30 million expression of interest and nomination form from the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Abakaliki. A large crowd of supporters and well-wishers accompanied him to the venue.
Osborne stands as one of the aspirants endorsed by Governor Francis Nwifuru as the APC's preferred candidates across the state's 13 local government areas ahead of the forthcoming council elections. The endorsement has sparked varied reactions among political observers in Ebonyi. Senator David Umahi himself called it the height of appreciation from the governor for his past contributions.
Osborne kept a low profile when journalists approached him declining to make any comments at the secretariat.
State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Mr Francis Ori who witnessed the event praised the young aspirant highly. He described Osborne as a chip off the old block who will replicate his father's impressive achievements as former governor and current minister. Ori added that the people of Ohaozara stand solidly behind him and will show strong support when the polls open.
This development highlights the Umahi family's continued influence in Ebonyi politics. With primaries set for January 25 and the main council elections expected later in the year Osborne's bid could shape the leadership landscape in his home local government.
All eyes now on how this endorsement and form collection play out in the coming weeks. Ebonyi council polls promise plenty of action.
