‘You Made the Right Choice’ – ADC Officially Welcomes Media Mogul Dele Momodu into the Fold Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warmly welcomed veteran journalist, publisher of Ovation International, and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu as a new member of the party, hailing his decision with the bold message: “You made the right choice.”
The official welcome came via a statement posted on the ADC's verified X handle on Friday, January 16, 2026, shortly after Momodu formally declared his membership in the party on Thursday, January 15, 2026, during a ceremony in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
ADC Statement:
“We are delighted to officially welcome the Publisher of Ovation International and former presidential candidate of the National Conscience Party, Dele Momodu, to the ADC. You made the right choice.”

Momodu, a prominent figure in Nigerian media and politics, described his move as a strategic step toward building a strong opposition coalition to challenge the ruling party in the 2027 general elections. He emphasized that his entry into the ADC is not driven by personal ambition for elective office.
Addressing supporters during the declaration, Momodu stated:
“I was promoting the interests of the people and not running for any office in the state.”
He further clarified his motivations, ruling out any interest in positions like senator or governor in his home state of Edo:
“People have asked me, what do you want? Do you want to be a governor, a senator? No. I just want to promote the best interests of our people.”

Momodu stressed the broader national goal: rescuing Nigeria from what he described as the drift toward a one-party state and one dominant parliament. He called on Nigerians across party lines to unite in defense of democracy:
“Nigeria must be rescued from a one-party state... We must protect the democracy won for us by the late Moshood Kolawole Olawale (MKO) Abiola of blessed memory.”

The defection follows Momodu's earlier exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and aligns with ongoing efforts to forge a formidable opposition platform capable of countering President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Prominent ADC leaders, including former Edo State Governor Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, described the move as a significant milestone, praising Momodu as a principled patriot who has long advocated for good governance.
This high-profile addition strengthens the ADC's profile as it positions itself as a key player in the evolving opposition dynamics ahead of the next general elections.
Political watchers see Momodu's involvement without seeking personal office as a boost for coalition-building, advocacy, and grassroots mobilization in the push for democratic renewal.
As Nigeria's political landscape heats up toward 2027, stay tuned for more updates on opposition realignments, defections, and coalition strategies! What impact do you think Dele Momodu's entry will have on the ADC and the 2027 race?
