Middlesbrough manager Michael Carrick has expressed confidence that Kelechi Iheanacho will continue to find the back of the net for the club after the Nigerian forward opened his account in their 3-1 win over Oxford United on Saturday.
Iheanacho, who joined Middlesbrough on loan from Sevilla in January, scored his first goal for the club in the 48th minute, giving Boro the lead at the Riverside Stadium.
Carrick praised the 28-year-old striker, saying he was pleased with the impact Iheanacho has made. “He is happy. We are trying to keep the smile off Neto’s face as much as anything! He was delighted too,” Carrick told the club’s official website. “But Kel knows it.
He has played at a level, and goals make you feel a bit better, naturally. I wasn’t concerned, I knew he would score and hopefully he has got more in him, I am sure he has. It was a massive goal for us.”
The goal marked a positive step for Iheanacho, who will be looking to build on his performance as Middlesbrough push for a strong finish to the season.
Carrick’s backing suggests the Nigerian striker will have more opportunities to contribute, with the manager confident in his ability to deliver.
