NSCIA Declares Ramadan Fasting to Continue Sunday as Moon Remains Unsighted

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), led by His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, has announced that Muslims in Nigeria should continue fasting on Sunday, March 30, 2025, as the crescent moon marking the end of Ramadan has not been sighted.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the NSCIA directed Muslims to look for the Shawwal crescent on the 29th day of Ramadan. The council emphasized that if the moon is sighted according to Islamic standards, the Sultan will declare Sunday as Eid ul-Fitr.

"Should the crescent be sighted following proper verification, His Eminence will announce Sunday, 30th March 2025, as the first day of Shawwal and the day of Eid ul-Fitr," the statement read.

The NSCIA urged Muslims to remain patient and adhere to the traditional moon-sighting process, reinforcing the importance of following religious guidelines in determining the end of Ramadan.

The announcement comes as millions of Nigerian Muslims await the official confirmation of Eid celebrations, which mark the conclusion of the holy month of fasting and spiritual reflection.
