Women Group Advises Natasha to Use Suspension Period for Therapy

A women’s advocacy group has urged Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan to use her suspension period to seek therapy and focus on her mental and emotional well-being. The group, known as the Coalition for Women’s Rights and Empowerment (CWRE), made the call in a statement issued on Tuesday, following the senator’s suspension by the Nigerian Senate over her allegations of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The CWRE expressed solidarity with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing her suspension as unjust and a setback for women in politics. However, the group emphasized the importance of mental health and urged the senator to take the time to heal and recover from the trauma of the ordeal.

“While we condemn the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and stand firmly with her in her quest for justice, we also recognize the emotional toll this situation has taken on her. We encourage her to use this period to seek therapy and prioritize her mental and emotional well-being,” the statement read.

The group also called on the Nigerian Senate to reverse the suspension and conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations against Senate President Akpabio. They emphasized the need for accountability and transparency in addressing issues of sexual harassment and misconduct in the legislative arm of government.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension has sparked widespread outrage, with many Nigerians condemning it as an attempt to silence her and protect Akpabio. The CWRE’s statement adds to the growing calls for justice and fairness in the handling of the matter.

As the controversy continues, the focus remains on ensuring that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s rights are protected and that the allegations against Akpabio are investigated thoroughly.
