15 Injured in Gas Explosion at Ijora, Lagos


A gas explosion at No. 12, Amosu Street in Ijora Badia, Apapa Iganmu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos has left 15 people, including adults and children, with varying degrees of burns. The incident occurred in a mini shop within a bungalow building that houses 15 self-contained rooms and seven shops.

Cause of the Explosion

The explosion was triggered by a gas leakage from a mishandled 25kg cylinder. The leaked gas attracted a nearby flame, resulting in the fire and subsequent explosion. Authorities have emphasized the need for proper handling of gas cylinders to avoid similar incidents.

Emergency Response

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), supported by the Sari Iganmu Fire Station and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), responded promptly to the scene. First aid was administered to some victims, while others were transported to hospitals for further treatment. LSFRS confirmed that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Safety Measures

This incident highlights the importance of adhering to safety protocols when handling gas cylinders and other flammable products. Authorities are expected to intensify public awareness campaigns to prevent future occurrences.
