Nollywood actress and media personality Omotunde Adebowale-David, popularly known as Lolo 1, has disclosed that she was raped by a male colleague in the broadcast industry six years ago.
The Revelation
Lolo 1 made the revelation on her podcast, "Say My Piece," where she discussed her experiences with sexual assault. While she did not reveal the identity of her attacker, she explained that she fears public scrutiny for not speaking out sooner, especially now that the individual has become established in the industry.
Lingering Trauma
The actress shared that she continues to experience trauma from the incident and goes into a state of panic whenever she sees her attacker, an encounter that occurs frequently.
Lolo's Statement
Lolo 1 expressed her hesitation in naming the individual, stating, "But if a woman of my calibre named him, he’s an established person in the broadcast industry, won’t people say, ‘How come I didn’t speak about it for all these six years until now that he’s taking a prominent TV position?"'
She also highlighted that women often react to sexual assault with denial and self-blame, reflecting the complexities of trauma and recovery. Lolo 1 currently co-anchors News Central’s breakfast show, Jasiri.
