In the early hours of Tuesday, April 16, 2025, unknown armed hoodlums wielding cutlasses and firearms launched a violent attack on the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in the Obeiba-Ihima area of Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State. The incident, which occurred around 1:00 a.m., saw at least three assailants vandalize the property, including breaking several window panes.
The attack was promptly reported to security authorities by the Senator’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja. Following the distress call, officers from the Okehi Police Division quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene to assess the situation. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and no arrests have been made so far.
Security sources, as disclosed by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama on his social media platform, revealed that investigations into the motive behind the attack are ongoing, with police yet to determine the reasons for the assault. The premises were documented by security operatives as part of preliminary inquiries.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, has not made any public statement regarding the attack as of the time of this report.
This violent incident comes amid a backdrop of heightened political tension in Kogi State, where Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has been a controversial figure. Recently, she faced suspension from the Senate and has publicly accused prominent political figures, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello, of plotting against her. The Senator has also been involved in a series of political confrontations and rallies despite government-imposed bans on such gatherings, further intensifying the fraught political atmosphere in the state.
The attack on her family residence underscores the volatile security situation in parts of Kogi State and raises concerns about the safety of political figures and their families amid ongoing political rivalries. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, seeking to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violent assault.
