Plateau United Player Stabbed by Nasarawa United Fan After NPFL Match

A violent incident marred the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) match between Nasarawa United and Plateau United on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the Lafia Township Stadium. Plateau United striker Vincent Temitope was stabbed in the neck by an irate Nasarawa United fan following the match, which Nasarawa United won 3-2.

The attack occurred after Temitope, who scored during the game, was approached by fans for photos. One of the fans, reportedly armed with a knife, stabbed him in the neck. Temitope was rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Lafia, where he received treatment and is now in stable condition.

The incident raises serious concerns about fan violence and stadium security in Nigerian football. The NPFL had recently lifted a ban on Nasarawa United fans attending matches, allowing them to return under strict security conditions. However, the attack highlights the need for more effective measures to prevent such incidents.

The Nigerian Police have arrested the suspect involved in the stabbing. The League Management Company and relevant authorities are under pressure to investigate the attack thoroughly and ensure those responsible face justice.
