Russian Missile Strike Kills Over 30 in Ukrainian City of Sumy

Kyiv, Ukraine – A devastating Russian missile strike on the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy has resulted in the deaths of at least 32 people, including two children, and injured 84 others, among them ten children, according to Ukrainian officials. The attack occurred on Palm Sunday, a significant Christian holiday, as residents gathered for church services.

Details of the Attack

- Time and Location: The strike happened at approximately 10:15 AM local time, with two ballistic missiles targeting the city center near Sumy State University and its congress center.

- Impact: The missiles caused widespread destruction, affecting around 20 structures, including educational facilities, cafes, shops, and residential buildings. Ten vehicles and trams were also damaged.

- Victims: The State Emergency Service of Ukraine confirmed that the deceased included civilians caught on the street, in vehicles, or within buildings.

International Response

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the attack, calling for a robust global response. He emphasized that dialogue has not deterred Russian aggression and urged other nations to take action against Russia.

French President Emmanuel Macron also denounced the attack, stating that Russia alone is responsible for continuing the war.

This incident follows a recent escalation in Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, including a lethal strike on Kryvyi Rih last week that killed around 20 people.

The ongoing conflict has seen increased diplomatic efforts, but a lasting ceasefire remains elusive.
