Driver, Conductor Flee as Bus Kills Pedestrian, Injures Two in Lagos


Lagos, Nigeria – A commercial bus driver and conductor have fled the scene after their vehicle caused the death of a pedestrian and left two others severely injured at Iyana Ejigbo, Lagos.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, stating that the driver and conductor absconded immediately following the accident. According to Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, the commercial LT bus (AAA 927 YJ) was reportedly speeding when it experienced brake failure. The driver lost control, and the vehicle veered off course, hitting bystanders.

LASTMA operatives responded quickly, extracting the deceased, who was trapped under the bus, and providing immediate assistance to the injured. All three victims were taken to the General Hospital in Isolo for urgent medical care. Officers from the Ejigbo Police Division provided security during the rescue operation. The vehicle has been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Mr. Bakare-Oki expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery. He urged motorists to adhere to speed limits and ensure regular vehicle maintenance, especially of braking systems, to prevent accidents.
