Sevilla, Spain - Sevilla have sacked coach Francisco Garcia Pimienta following a string of poor results, culminating in a fourth consecutive La Liga defeat. The club announced the decision on Sunday, citing the team's recent slump as the primary reason for the change.
The final straw came after Sevilla's 1-0 loss to Valencia on Friday, which left them in 13th place in the La Liga standings. In a statement released on their website, Sevilla thanked García Pimienta for his efforts during his tenure and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Sevilla has struggled for consistency in recent weeks, with only one win in their last seven matches. A particularly painful defeat came on March 30th when they lost the derby clash against Real Betis.
According to reports in the Spanish media, Joaquin Caparros is set to take over as coach until the end of the season. This will be his third stint as interim manager, having previously held the position in the final weeks of the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons.
Caparros also has a longer history with the club, having coached Sevilla from 2000 to 2005, during which time he led them to promotion back to the top flight. The club hopes Caparros can steady the ship and guide them to a strong finish this season.
