Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced a further reduction in the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, lowering it from ₦835 to ₦825 per litre. This latest price cut, confirmed on Monday, May 12, 2025, comes as competition in Nigeria’s domestic fuel market continues to intensify.
The 650,000-barrel-per-day refinery had previously reduced its petrol price from ₦865 to ₦835 per litre just last month, marking a series of downward revisions in recent weeks. Industry observers note that these adjustments are part of Dangote Refinery’s strategy to give customers more value and consolidate its leadership position in the local petroleum sector.
Checks by energy analysts indicate that the move is expected to benefit consumers by potentially easing pump prices and influencing broader market pricing dynamics. However, previous reductions have not always translated to immediate relief at petrol stations, as some marketers have been slow to pass on the savings to end users.
Dangote Refinery’s consistent price reductions underscore its commitment to making high-quality petrol more affordable for Nigerians. The company has also worked with partner retail outlets to ensure that these benefits reach consumers nationwide, with regional pricing adjustments reflecting logistical considerations.
As the domestic fuel market grows more competitive, further price movements may be anticipated, with Dangote Refinery positioning itself as a key player driving affordability and supply stability for Nigerian motorists and businesses.
