American reality star and entrepreneur Kim Kardashian has completed her legal studies through California’s unique Law Office Study Program, an apprenticeship route that allows aspiring lawyers to “read the law” under the supervision of practicing attorneys instead of attending traditional law school. At 44, Kardashian marked this milestone after six years of rigorous study, though she was not awarded a formal law degree.
California is one of the few states permitting this alternative path to becoming a lawyer, which requires participants to work under a licensed attorney or judge for at least four years. Kardashian’s journey extended to six years due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and her demanding schedule balancing family, business, and advocacy work.
Reflecting on her achievement, Kardashian shared on Instagram, “I chose a rigorous program registered with the California State Bar, building on 75 college credits to complete a four-year curriculum that stretched to six. The journey was real, and so is the accomplishment.” She celebrated her completion with a private surprise graduation ceremony attended by family, friends, and mentors, including attorney Jessica Jackson and CNN political analyst Van Jones, who praised her dedication and advocacy efforts.
Although Kardashian has finished the apprenticeship program and passed preliminary exams such as the “baby bar” and the Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam, she still must pass the California Bar Exam to become a licensed attorney. Her unconventional path, inspired in part by her late father Robert Kardashian’s legal legacy, reflects a growing recognition of alternative routes to legal qualification.
Kardashian’s commitment to criminal justice reform and her determination to pursue law despite not holding a college degree have drawn widespread attention and admiration. She has expressed that she would be equally happy practicing law full time as she is working in entertainment, underscoring her passion for justice and advocacy.
