Malami Accuses APC of Abandoning Governance to Prioritize Politics Ahead of 2027 Election

Former Attorney General of the Federation and ex-Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of neglecting governance in favor of political campaigning for the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting in Abuja, Malami criticized the APC for focusing on endorsing President Bola Tinubu as the sole candidate for the 2027 election, despite the polls being two years away, while ignoring pressing national issues such as insecurity, economic hardship, and rising poverty.

Malami said:

“Just a few days ago, the ruling party held its national summit and instead of addressing the serious issues of insecurity, economic hardship and rising poverty, it chose to focus on politics, endorsing President Bola Tinubu as sole candidate for the 2027 election that is still two years away.”

He urged officeholders to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians over political ambitions and called for a united movement to reclaim good governance and economic stability.

Malami’s remarks have drawn criticism from some APC members, including Ondo State lawmaker Donald Ojogo, who described the comments as hypocritical and mischievous, recalling Malami’s controversial tenure as Attorney General during the Buhari administration.

The National Political Consultative Group (North) meeting, which included opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, emphasized the worsening insecurity and economic challenges in northern Nigeria and resolved to present a united political front moving forward.
