Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has credited President Bola Tinubu’s swift intervention for saving the state from descending into anarchy amid a deepening political crisis. Speaking during a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of his support group, the Simplified Movement, to mark his two years in office, Fubara urged Rivers residents and Nigerians to thank the President for his timely action.
Fubara confirmed that the peace and reconciliation process aimed at restoring all executive and legislative institutions is already underway. He assured that democracy and good governance would soon return, with both arms of government working together for the state’s progress.
He encouraged his supporters to embrace peace and forgiveness, expressing confidence that the political issues would be resolved and that officials suspended during the emergency rule would return to their offices. Fubara emphasized the importance of rebuilding strong relationships to foster unity and development in Rivers State.
The emergency rule was declared by President Tinubu on March 18, 2025, following escalating tensions between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The President suspended Fubara, his deputy, and the entire Rivers State House of Assembly, appointing retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas as Sole Administrator to restore order.
Fubara described Tinubu’s intervention as a decisive move that prevented chaos and paved the way for peace and stability in the state.
