Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared how her first acting experience in the American fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone has transformed her perspective on the craft of acting. In a recent interview with CBS, Starr revealed that the discipline and rigor required on a movie set were eye-opening, contrasting sharply with her experiences in the music industry.
She explained that acting demanded punctuality and stamina, requiring her to adapt to a more regimented schedule, which she described as “military time.” “I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable,” Starr said, highlighting the hard work involved behind the scenes.
Although she has always loved acting, Starr admitted to feeling shy about it previously. This film marked the first time she appeared on camera without singing, an experience she found both challenging and rewarding. She praised the opportunity to learn from seasoned actors and the entire cast.
Children of Blood and Bone is an adaptation of Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel and is directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. The film boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu. Paramount Pictures is set to release the movie on January 15, 2027.
Ayra Starr’s debut not only marks a new chapter in her career but also underscores her growing admiration for the art of acting and the professionals who dedicate themselves to it.
