Satellite Images Reveal Iran’s Swift Repair Efforts at Fordow Nuclear Site Following US Airstrikes

New satellite imagery obtained from Maxar Technologies shows ongoing activity at Iran’s Fordow nuclear enrichment plant, which was targeted by US B-2 bombers just over a week ago. The images, captured on June 29, 2025, reveal excavation equipment, including an excavator and a crane, actively working near the ventilation shafts and damaged areas caused by the airstrikes. Several personnel and vehicles are also visible around the site, particularly near the northern shaft atop the ridge above the underground complex.

The US strikes, carried out earlier this month, involved dropping more than a dozen Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bunker-buster bombs aimed specifically at the two ventilation shafts of the heavily fortified Fordow facility. These munitions were designed to penetrate deep underground at speeds exceeding 1,000 feet per second before detonating inside the complex, with the goal of disrupting Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities.

Satellite images show evidence of craters and damage to access roads, with Iranian crews apparently engaged in filling these craters and restoring routes to assess and repair the facility. Analysts interpret this as Iran’s attempt to quickly recover from the strikes and maintain operational capacity at Fordow.

The Fordow site, located approximately 60 miles southwest of Tehran and buried deep within a mountain, is one of Iran’s most secure nuclear installations. While the US and Israel claim the strikes aim to hinder Iran’s nuclear weapons development, Iran maintains its program is peaceful and has condemned the attacks.

Despite the damage, US officials, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, have asserted that the strikes significantly set back Iran’s nuclear program, though some independent assessments suggest the impact may be limited to a delay of a few months.

This satellite evidence underscores the ongoing high-stakes confrontation over Iran’s nuclear ambitions, highlighting both the intensity of recent military actions and Tehran’s swift efforts to repair critical infrastructure.
