In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Israel and Iran launched fresh waves of missile attacks against each other early Saturday, June 14, 2025, intensifying fears of a broader regional conflict. The latest exchanges come just hours after Israel’s unprecedented strikes on Iranian nuclear and military facilities, which killed senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists.
Before dawn, explosions rocked Tehran as Israeli warplanes targeted key sites, while air raid sirens blared across Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, sending residents scrambling for shelter as Iran retaliated with hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones aimed at Israeli cities and military bases.
Israel’s Iron Dome and air defense systems intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, but some missiles struck residential areas, resulting in casualties and significant property damage.
Iran’s counterattacks, codenamed “Operation True Promise 3,” targeted dozens of sites in Israel, including airfields and military installations. At least three people were killed and dozens wounded in Israel, while Iranian officials reported over 78 deaths and more than 320 injuries mostly civilians following Israel’s initial Friday strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
Both sides have vowed further retaliation. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz are reportedly in secure locations, monitoring the evolving situation and warning that the military campaign will continue “for as long as necessary”.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has threatened a fierce response, declaring the attacks will not go unanswered.
The United States has stated it is not involved in the military operations but has begun relocating diplomats and military families from the region as a precaution. The international community is watching closely as the conflict threatens to destabilize the Middle East further.
