Kwara United and Rivers Angels have been handsomely rewarded following their victories in the 2025 President Federation Cup finals held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos. Kwara United clinched their first-ever men’s title after a tense 4-3 penalty shootout win over Abakaliki FC, while Rivers Angels secured their 10th women’s crown by defeating Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regular time.
In recognition of their achievements, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) awarded Kwara United ₦50 million for their historic win, while runners-up Abakaliki FC received ₦20 million. On the women’s side, Rivers Angels were rewarded with ₦25 million, and Nasarawa Amazons took home ₦10 million as runners-up.
Kwara United’s victory not only brought them the prestigious Federation Cup trophy but also secured them a spot in the 2025-26 CAF Confederation Cup, marking a significant milestone for the Ilorin-based club. Meanwhile, Rivers Angels successfully defended their title, further cementing their legacy as Nigeria’s dominant women’s football club.
The men’s final was a tightly contested affair with both teams unable to break the deadlock in 90 minutes, leading to a penalty shootout where Kwara United’s composure prevailed. Abakaliki FC, the tournament’s surprise package, had earlier eliminated several top-tier clubs but fell short at the final hurdle. On the women’s side, Rivers Angels mounted a remarkable comeback from two goals down to draw level before triumphing on penalties, with goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi earning the best goalkeeper award and scoring the decisive penalty.
These rewards and achievements highlight the growing competitiveness and recognition of Nigerian club football, with both Kwara United and Rivers Angels poised to represent the nation proudly on the continental stage.
