Security forces have successfully rescued 13 passengers abducted from a Benue Links bus at Eke in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State. The rescue operation was a coordinated effort involving the police and local vigilante groups, who intensified pressure on the kidnappers through forest combing and strategic collaboration with youths from neighboring Kogi State.
The chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Adah Inalegwu, confirmed the rescue on Sunday, detailing that two passengers were initially freed on Saturday, while the remaining eleven were found abandoned by the kidnappers at Oando village around 4:00 pm on Sunday. This breakthrough was attributed to improved security surveillance and logistics support provided by Governor Hyacinth Alia, which enhanced tracking and operational efficiency.
The abducted passengers are currently undergoing profiling before being reunited with their families. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by Benue State authorities to combat the rising menace of kidnappings and ensure the safety of commuters along vulnerable routes.
This incident follows a series of attacks on Benue Links buses in the state, underscoring the persistent security challenges faced by travelers in the region. The collaboration between security agencies and local communities remains crucial in tackling these threats and restoring public confidence in road travel within Benue State.
