Human rights lawyer and activist Deji Adeyanju has stated that President Bola Tinubu will not formally contest the 2027 presidential election but will nonetheless “stroll into the villa” as Nigeria’s president. In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle on June 14, 2025, Adeyanju warned that defeating Tinubu would require more than just an opposition coalition, implying that Tinubu’s hold on power is virtually unassailable.
Adeyanju’s remarks come amid ongoing debates over the 2027 election, where opposition figures like Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have struggled to form a united front against Tinubu. He has repeatedly emphasized that the opposition’s divisions and the alleged alignment between Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) make it extremely difficult to unseat the incumbent.
Previously, Adeyanju predicted that no amount of social media activism or opposition infighting would prevent Tinubu’s re-election unless there is a strong, united coalition. He also suggested that Tinubu might strategically support rival opposition factions to weaken their chances.
The activist’s comments reflect widespread skepticism about the fairness of Nigeria’s electoral process and the political dominance of President Tinubu, signaling a challenging road ahead for opposition parties aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.
