Activist Scott Iguma Accuses Nigeria Police of Fighting Justice Following Bail Release

Social media activist and influencer Scott Iguma has sharply accused the Nigeria Police of working against the justice system in a video released shortly after his bail was granted. The activist spoke out on July 24, 2025, to thank supporters and to condemn what he described as systemic police corruption and oppression.

Iguma had been arrested and remanded by a Lagos State High Court over allegations related to defamation of the real estate company PWAN, after publicly accusing the firm of scamming customers by selling receipts instead of land. Despite posting over 130 petitions to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against PWAN, Iguma's arrest sparked wide outcry on social media alleging intimidation tactics.

In the video, Iguma stated his experience reveals the Nigeria Police are “not loyal to Nigeria, not loyal to the law or justice,” but “only loyal to money.” He alleged the police are “fighting against justice,” claiming they accept bribes easily, sometimes as trivial as a bottle of soda, to wrongfully convict innocent people. He expressed sadness over the injustice he personally endured.

Iguma was granted bail on July 21, 2025, with conditions being finalized after spending three days in custody. The case against him remains ongoing, with the Lagos State Police spokesperson affirming the legal process will continue. Meanwhile, the PWAN company denied orchestrating his detention.

This development highlights the continuing tension between activists exposing corruption in Nigeria and the law enforcement agencies sometimes accused of enabling impunity. Iguma’s case is a prominent example of how social media has become a battleground for justice and accountability, even as systemic challenges persist.
