Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has confidently asserted that he faces no real opposition in the upcoming November 8, 2025, governorship election. Addressing supporters at an endorsement rally organized by stakeholders of Anambra Central Senatorial Zone in Awka, Soludo claimed that most of those contesting against him are in the race simply to raise funds for personal gain, not out of any genuine ambition to govern the state.
The rally marked the second major endorsement of Soludo's candidacy within weeks, following a similar declaration by stakeholders from Anambra North Senatorial Zone. In his speech, the governor emphasized Anambra's longstanding zoning formula, which rotates leadership among the state’s three senatorial districts. Soludo, from the South, assured residents that after his second term, the governorship would move to the Central Zone, ensuring a smooth continuation of the zoning arrangement.
Soludo dismissed his opponents’ prospects, claiming, "I don’t know who else is contesting in this election, but we heard that some people are contesting but we don’t know who they are. They are not contesting, they are doing fund raisings." He suggested that rival candidates’ campaigns merely serve as vehicles to solicit funds from politicians and ministers under the guise of gubernatorial ambitions.
The governor highlighted his administration’s achievements and promised even more infrastructural and developmental projects for the people of Anambra. He also announced his official move into the new Anambra Light House City (New Government House), signaling the start of a new era of leadership from the newly completed seat of government.
Stakeholders, including influential figures such as Osita Chidoka and Okey Muo-Aroh, as well as representatives of student, market, and community groups, delivered speeches endorsing Soludo and expressing strong support for his re-election. The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, read a communal pledge from the entire central zone endorsing Soludo for a second term.
Soludo concluded by affirming the unity of Anambra's progressives and setting an ambitious target of winning at least 90% of electoral wards in the Central Senatorial Zone.
