Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia Dissolves State Executive Council, Sacks All Commissioners

On July 30, 2025, Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia officially dissolved the state executive council, effectively dismissing all appointed commissioners. The only executive office retained is the Chief of Staff, a position now held by Barr. Moses Atagher, a seasoned administrator and former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Benue, as well as a former acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

The dissolution was announced at the close of the 12th executive council meeting of 2025. The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Terso Kula, clarified that it was only the commissioners who were dismissed, while the Chief of Staff office continues uninterrupted.

Governor Alia expressed gratitude to the outgoing commissioners for their approximately two years of service and encouraged them to remain engaged politically and supportive of the administration, even if they are not reappointed in future.

Barr. Bemsen Mnyim spoke on behalf of the dissolved commissioners, thanking the governor for the opportunity to serve and viewing the experience as a valuable learning process.

Outgoing commissioners have been directed to hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretaries of their ministries as the state prepares for a refreshed executive team.

This move signals a significant cabinet reshuffle aimed at reinvigorating the state’s governance during Governor Alia’s administration.
