EFCC Raises Alarm Over Alleged Plans to Sell Assets Linked to N75bn, $31.5m Arik Air Fraud

July 30, 2025 - The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alerted a Lagos court to alleged attempts by two defendants in the ongoing fraud trial related to Arik Air to secretly sell aircraft assets connected to the alleged N75 billion and $31.5 million fraud case. The defendants implicated include Kamilu Omokide, the Receiver Manager of Arik Air, and Capt. Roy Ilegbodu, the airline’s CEO.

EFCC counsel Wahab Shittu, SAN, expressed concern that the duo might dispose of critical assets under litigation, which could undermine the integrity of the trial. The case involves former AMCON Managing Director Ahmed Kuru, Union Bank of Nigeria Plc, Super Bravo Limited, Omokide, and Ilegbodu, facing charges of conspiracy, stealing, and abuse of office.

The court hearing was held before Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja. While the EFCC did not oppose Ilegbodu's application to travel abroad for medical treatment, it cited intelligence reports on the suspected asset sales. Defense lawyers denied any involvement in the alleged plans, with Ilegbodu’s counsel stating he lacked authority to dispose of the aircraft.

The trial is at a critical stage, as stressed by the EFCC, which seeks to prevent any actions that could compromise the proceedings or the assets under dispute.

This development highlights ongoing complications in efforts to recover funds and assets linked to alleged large-scale financial fraud involving Arik Air, AMCON, and associated entities.
