The Nigerian Super Falcons have arrived in Rabat, Morocco, ahead of their eagerly anticipated 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final against the host nation, Morocco. Under the guidance of coach Justine Madugu, the nine-time African champions are gearing up for the final showdown at Rabat’s Olympic Stadium on Friday, July 26.
The team held their first training session at the FUS Academie in Rabat, with the first 15 minutes open to the media, followed by a closed-door session to finalize preparations. The Super Falcons earned their spot in the final after a thrilling 2-1 victory over defending champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana) in the semi-final held on July 22 in Casablanca. The semi-final win was secured by a late spectacular goal from defender Michelle Alozie, adding to Nigeria’s strong tournament form.
Morocco reached the final by overcoming Ghana’s Black Queens 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, setting the stage for a highly anticipated final between two formidable African women’s football teams. This will be a rematch of the 2022 WAFCON semi-final, where Morocco defeated Nigeria on penalties.
The Super Falcons are aiming to capture their record-extending 10th WAFCON title, cementing their dominance in African women’s football.
