Four Nigerian Super Falcons players have been included in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 Best XI, as announced by the competition’s Technical Study Group. This remarkable recognition highlights the dominant performances by Rasheedat Ajibade, Esther Okoronkwo, Michelle Alozie, and Chiamaka Nnadozie throughout the tournament held in Morocco.
Chiamaka Nnadozie, who was also named the best goalkeeper of the tournament, kept four clean sheets and conceded only twice from open play, both instances coming against Morocco in the final. Defensive stalwart Michelle Alozie was named best right-back, featuring in five of Nigeria’s six games. Her defensive strength and consistency were vital to Nigeria’s solid backline.
Versatile winger Esther Okoronkwo shone with her trickery and pace, contributing two goals and six assists across six matches. She also claimed two Woman of the Match awards for her outstanding on-field impact. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament at just 24 years old, after registering one goal and two assists. Ajibade’s leadership and skill earned her three Woman of the Match awards, underscoring her pivotal role in Nigeria’s campaign.
This strong Nigerian presence in the Best XI reflects the Super Falcons' impressive showing and continued status as powerhouses in African women’s football.
