The All Progressives Congress (APC) has scored a landslide victory in Rivers State’s local government elections held on Saturday, clinching 20 out of the 23 local government areas (LGAs), according to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) announcement in Port Harcourt.
The candidates who emerged victorious under the APC banner are closely aligned with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. APC’s wins include Ahoada East with 84,125 votes, Andoni with 126,181 votes, Etche with 100,649 votes, and several others like Akuku Toru, Bonny, Degema, and Gokana LGAs. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) managed to secure only three LGAs Obio-Akpor with an overwhelming 328,888 votes, Port Harcourt LGA, and one more smaller area.
The election results reflect APC’s consolidation of power at the grassroots level within the state. This development comes amid ongoing political tensions and legal battles in the region but sets a clear momentum heading into future political contests in Rivers State.
