Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and former presidential candidate, has publicly supported the potential return of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi to the PDP for the 2027 presidential election. Olawepo-Hashim believes their participation would strengthen democracy within the party by fostering inclusiveness and healthy competition.
He stated that a competitive PDP primary involving these figures would not divide but invigorate the party, helping it reclaim its identity as Nigeria’s true democratic platform. While none of the three have formally declared intentions to return to the PDP or run for president in 2027, there is ongoing speculation about their political realignment and potential candidacies.
