ADC Vows to Challenge APC's Dominance in Borno Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially launched its chapter in Borno State with a firm pledge to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. During the unveiling event in Maiduguri, the state capital, Sheriff Banki, the ADC convener in Borno, accused the APC of systematically stifling opposition voices through all possible means, leaving the state devoid of a viable opposition until now.

Banki emphasized that the ADC would function as a strong opposition, closely scrutinizing government policies and opposing any actions deemed undemocratic. The party has joined a broader national coalition movement that is designed to resist manipulation by the APC, with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar leading the coalition in the North East and Kashim Imam as the key figure in Borno.

Regarding the 2027 elections, Banki stated that all ADC members in the state, including those from other political movements such as former NNPP governorship aspirants, a former PDP treasurer, and ex-House of Assembly members, would support whoever emerges as the ADC’s presidential candidate. He expressed confidence that, despite past manipulation both internally and externally, the party can succeed with serious commitment and courage.

The ADC aims to provide a credible platform for progressives focused on national development and has attracted support from several prominent political actors in Borno, signaling a potential political shift in a state long dominated by the APC.
