The Dangote Group on Sunday extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Ijeoma Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, the winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, following the tragic death of her sister, Ruth Otabor. Ruth succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident involving a Dangote Cement truck on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State.
In a statement released through its official channels, Dangote Group expressed deep sorrow, emphasizing that since the accident they had been providing full medical and financial support to Ruth and her family. The group revealed that arrangements were made to fly Ruth to India for advanced medical treatment, subject to medical clearance from her doctors. Despite these efforts, Ruth passed away at approximately 6:30 am on August 31, 2025.
The company reiterated its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion, affirming ongoing efforts to strengthen safety systems and support affected families during tragic times. The Dangote Group prayed for Ruth’s eternal rest and offered sympathy and support to her loved ones.
Phyna and her family have requested privacy to mourn their loss and will communicate funeral arrangements in due course.
