On August 10, 2025, Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council, a significant cabinet reshuffle involving the removal of 19 commissioners and some special advisers. The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro, confirmed the decision in an official statement late Sunday night.
The affected commissioners and advisers have been directed to hand over their duties to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). Governor Oyebanji expressed gratitude to the outgoing members for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
However, the dissolution excludes several key officials who will retain their positions:
- The State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice
- Commissioner for Health and Human Services
- Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security
- Commissioner for Education
- Commissioner for Works
- Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Industry and Cooperatives
- Special Adviser on Special Education and Social Inclusion
- Special Adviser on Lands, Survey and e-GIS
Additionally, all Directors General who are members of the State Executive Council, including the Director General of the Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), the Director General of SDGs and Project Monitoring, and the Director General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), will remain in their roles.
This shake-up reflects a strategic move by Governor Oyebanji to refresh his cabinet while maintaining stability in critical sectors of the state government.
