INEC Violated Constitution by Conducting Illegal By-Elections, Says Buba Galadima

Buba Galadima, a senior figure in the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of conducting illegal by-elections in Nigeria. Speaking on Channels TV's Politics Today program on August 18, 2025, Galadima alleged that INEC violated constitutional provisions requiring it to conduct by-elections within three months of a vacancy.

Galadima pointed out that some by-elections were held long after this timeline, with some occurring two years late, such as one in Kano state following an inconclusive 2023 election. He urged Nigerians to challenge the legality of these elections in court, stressing that constitutional law mandates timely by-elections.

He emphasized that delays in holding by-elections undermine democratic processes and called for judicial scrutiny to uphold the constitution. Galadima’s comments reflect growing concern over electoral integrity and compliance with electoral laws in Nigeria.
