NCAA Suspends ValueJet Crew Licenses Over Serious Safety Breach at Abuja Airport

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) announced on August 5, 2025, the immediate suspension of two ValueJet pilots’ licenses following a serious violation of aviation safety protocols at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. The suspended crew members are Captain Oluranti Ogoyi and First Officer Ivan Oloba.

According to the NCAA, the incident involved the pilot commencing departure procedures from the designated bay without obtaining the mandatory pre-departure clearance. The authority described this reckless action as endangering the safety of ground personnel and other airport users, violating established civil aviation regulations and international safety standards.

The NCAA is treating the matter with utmost seriousness, and the suspensions will remain in effect pending the outcome of a full investigation. Video evidence attached to the NCAA statement shows officials standing in front of the aircraft at the moment the pilot began departure procedures.

ValueJet has not yet issued a public response to the suspension. The NCAA emphasizes its commitment to strict enforcement of safety protocols to ensure aviation safety in Nigeria.
