A former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has made a striking declaration about the integrity of candidates vying for public office under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the All Progressives Congress (APC). Amadi described most people running for office in these two major parties as "thieves."
In a post shared on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Amadi, who is also the Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, stated, "Two Sides of Truth: Almost all Nigerian governors and legislators are corrupt. They stole, with exception of @PeterObi & one or two. Most people running for office in ADC or APC are thieves."
Further, Amadi criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of being a compromised, corrupt, and biased organization that is unable to prosecute members of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
This bold statement spotlights ongoing public concerns about corruption and accountability within Nigerian political parties and institutions. Amadi’s comments underscore the challenges facing Nigerian democracy, emphasizing the need for credible candidates and transparent anti-corruption enforcement to restore public trust.
His endorsement of former Governor Peter Obi as one of the few exceptions to the corruption he highlighted also reflects the continuing political divisions and debates over leadership in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
Amadi’s remarks come amid broader allegations of election rigging and manipulations in parts of the country, further complicating the political climate as Nigeria approaches future elections. The call for clean governance and judicial independence resonates strongly with citizens demanding better accountability from their leaders and institutions.
