Rotimi Amaechi Declares Buhari’s Government ‘100 Times Better’ Than Tinubu’s, Criticizes Current Administration’s Economic and Security Failures

Former Nigerian Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi publicly stated that the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari was "100 times better" than that of Bola Tinubu. Speaking during a discussion on an X Space titled Weekend Politics on August 9, 2025, Amaechi lamented the worsening economic conditions under Tinubu, citing exorbitant household costs such as paying about ₦1 million weekly for power and around ₦300,000 monthly for diesel, which many Nigerians cannot afford.

Amaechi argued that Nigerians were better off during Buhari’s tenure, describing the current government's economic management as having "completely buried the economy,” with poverty deepening and the middle class disappearing. He highlighted issues with institutional independence under Tinubu, noting that even the registration of political parties was being obstructed.

This critique follows Amaechi's defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he aligns with prominent opposition figures. He expressed his commitment to supporting whoever wins ADC's presidential primary and vowed to help unseat what he called the "clueless" current government. Amaechi also pledged to pursue electoral reforms aggressively if elected president.

His remarks reflect growing dissatisfaction within some political circles about the governance and socio-economic trajectory under Tinubu’s administration compared to Buhari’s years in office.
